Force Plates and Multi-Axis Force Measurement
We have been proud to have partnered with AMTI, the global leader in multi-axis force measurement and testing solutions, for over 20 years.
AMTI’s best-in-industry calibration guarantees customers the highest level of accuracy. They are the only force plate manufacturer to meet ASTM’s “Standard Test Method for Verification of Multi-Axis Force Measuring Platforms”, which establishes a global precedence for force plate verification. This guarantees that all AMTI customers are receiving the highest level of precision, reliability and accuracy over the entire working surface of their force plate.
We’re pleased to offer a wide range of force plates in a variety of sizes and capacities, as well as portable options, custom builds for specialist applications, and force platforms for equine and veterinary uses. The force plates can either be used individually, or in a variety of configurations in order to collect multiple footsteps.

Treadmills
Training and evaluating gait and balance
We supply state-of-the-art force-measuring treadmills for the training, evaluation and assessment for gait, balance and stability. Instrumented treadmills allow you to capture multiple footsteps across a longer distance than force plates, and measure gait parameters such as step length, width, frequency and symmetry. You can even introduce perturbations for dynamic testing, or mimic tripping and slipping, in a safe environment.
We can offer single and dual-belt treadmills, with or without safety harnesses, and with or without body weight support.
We also offer a range of gait analysis software to make the most of the data you acquire, and our more complex systems can include motion capture , EMG, and real time virtual reality feedback.
Optimise sports performance, evaluate rehabilitation after injury, or simulate real-world experiences with immersive virtual reality – we will work with you to find the treadmill best suited for your needs.
Our state-of-the-art multi-sensory rehabilitation treadmill systems can be used for clinical analysis, research and immersive physical therapy using virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR).
For example, the Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment (CAREN, pictured right) combines a motion platform with six degrees of freedom, an instrumented force plate dual belt treadmill, motion capture, high speed video, D-Flow software, virtual reality and surround sound, and uses game elements and immersive interactions to engage the subject within a real time feedback loop.
The CAREN is used by some of the UK’s leading facilities including the Defence and National Rehabilitation Centre (DNRC) and the Brain and Spinal Injury Centre (BASIC).

Virtual Reality Systems
Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technology is becoming more and more common in rehabilitation and research, transporting patients far beyond the four walls of the gym or lab and supporting them with new and exciting training programmes.
Imagine walking through a forest on a path which winds left to right, and up and down, while learning to walk again. You are safely supported by a harness, so if you fall or become unstable, you will be prevented from hurting yourself. You could also walk around a cityscape with all the challenges you would typically encounter, or perhaps steer a boat around obstacles to train your balance.
Many of our systems incorporate an element of augmented and virtual reality, using audio and visual cues within a virtual environment to challenge and engage patients. This has psychological, physical and cognitive benefits for the subject as they practise activities which can’t be achieved within a typical environment.
Customers like Cardiff University and the Brain and Spinal Injury Centre use our virtual reality treadmill systems for innovative PTSD treatment, called Modular Motion-assisted Memory Desensitisation and Reconsolidation (3MDR).
3MDR is based on virtual reality exposure therapy and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, embedded within a novel context whereby the patient walks on a treadmill whilst interacting with a series of self-selected images that are displayed on a large screen and relate to the patient’s past traumas. It aims to reduce cognitive avoidance while concurrently promoting engagement with therapy.

This allows rehabilitation to start early in a safe environment, and reduces the number of therapists required and physical strain on the therapist. Patients aren’t restricted by the limitations of conventional therapy, and can practice a wide variety of movements.
These devices are support-as-needed and can be completely tailored to each patient, allowing them to progress and achieve therapy goals.
For research purposes, you can use overground or overhead body weight support, or upper limb weight support, for a wide range of projects and studies.
