Motek HERO Solution
Born in crisis. A solution at the right time.
The HERO Solution, developed by Motek and in cooperation with Monitored Rehab Systems, is a 5-system solution for complete functional movement rehabilitation.
“The way of doing movement rehabilitation is changing
every day and we have to adapt to it. We have chosen Motek’s HERO Solution after the opportunity to test it, because
it adjusts to the modernisation process that we have started
in our rehabilitation service. Its potential is huge!”
– Dr Jaime Horta, PhD, PT, Medical Specialist for Physical Rehabilitation, Centre Hospitalier de Mouscron, Belgium.
For the health crisis and beyond
When patients experience neurological disorders, orthopaedic conditions or long-term immobilisation such as Covid-19, mobility problems can arise. It is the HERO Solution’s job to rise with them and offer a high-level rehabilitation response for early and all-round treatment, providing hope and the tools for the chance of a full recovery.
The HERO Solution combines Motek and Monitored Rehab Systems’ most suitable devices into one set of four hardware devices, synchronised by a smart and user-friendly software. It makes planning and treatment easy, as patient intake and treatment plan selection will automatically suggest which assessments, tests and questionnaires to take and which interventions to follow on the individual devices.
Key applications
The HERO Solution is medically certified. It enables you to treat patients on functional strength, gait & balance, coordination and motor control to improve mobility problems caused by neurological, orthopaedic, muscular, cardiovascular or other conditions.
Such conditions include: Amputation, Cerebellar Disorders, Parkinson’s Disease, Spinal Cord Injury, Stroke, Orthopaedic Disorders and recovery after long-term immobilisation, e.g. due to COVID-19 Infection.
Emma's Story
Meet Emma, a 26 years-old Intensive Care Unit nurse from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Last year she tested positive for COVID-19, and that’s when her HERO path started. Her recovery was not easy as she could only get back outside after 10 weeks. The central part of her recovery process was the incorporation of the therapy on the HERO Solution.
Watch Emma explain why this has been an indispensable part of her post COVID-19 recovery path.
The HERO Solution offers...
A complete system for functional rehabilitation
Easy treatment planning and execution
Smart patient management and progression monitoring
Fun, motivating and engaging therapy sessions
Introducing the C-Mill HERO
The C-Mill HERO is the newest development to the C-Mill product line of cutting-edge balance and gait treadmills, simulating challenging everyday scenarios through augmented and virtual reality. It shares the line’s interactive and dynamic exercises, as well as an adjustable pitch for uphill walking and dual-tasking exercises.
The C-Mill HERO offers objective instrumented assessments and clinically relevant outcome measurements for treatment planning and progression monitoring. Clinical gait analysis protocols allow therapists to collect various parameters and synchronised video recording for real-time and offline analysis.

FysioRoadmap
FysioRoadmap offers efficient and effective documentation of the clinical pathway, and evaluation-based treatment protocols. Following a patient’s indication, the FysioRoadmap software offers a systematic clinical approach to monitor progression and evaluate results of the rehabilitation process. Clinical outcomes are easily collected and measured in a protocolled way to supply the electronic patient database and provide benchmarking options.
FysioRoadmap documents each phase of the rehabilitation process, guiding therapists and patients through each step of the clinical pathway. The software delivers indications for therapeutic goals, as well as baseline and follow-up assessments either via questionnaire or instrumented methods using the C-Mill HERO and the other devices listed below.
MR Functional Squat
Effective muscle load: The MR Functional Squat’s unique eccentric cam, with its off centre-positioned center of rotation, provides optimal effective muscle loading throughout the total range of motion, therefore allowing early effective training for patients with a low load capacity.
Single leg training: Separate footrests allow for functional training with one leg at a time, making the device extremely usable for i.e. hemiplegic patients or for selected training of leg/hip after orthopedic surgery.
MR Cable Column
Multi-use for upper and lower extremity and spine: The design of the MR Cable Column allows all different ways of functional exercises for upper extremities, lower extremities as well as for the spine.
Unique upper body boom: The upper body boom allows the pulley to be positioned high on the device, which makes vertical and downwards movements against the load possible, thus expanding the range of functional exercises.
MR Cube
Create own set up for feedback exercise: The MR Cube makes it possible to turn any device into a visual feedback tool, enabling you to use all unique features of the MRS Device Software on any training device, even down to as basic as ordinary dumbbells.
Easily portable: The MR Cube is a highly portable device, which gives ex-tensive flexibility to the therapist for offering advanced feed-back exercises at different locations and on various setups.
First HERO Solution in the world sold in the UK
The first Motek HERO Solution in the world has been purchased by the University of Strathclyde.
The University’s Department of Biomedical Engineering is a pioneer in the field of developing rehabilitation technology, and the HERO Solution will be used in The Sir Jules Thorn Centre for Co-Creation of Rehabilitation Technology, a new part of the Department’s world-class research hub. The Centre will revolutionise collaborations between academia, industry and the public sector in order to improve or develop clinical and community-based service models for rehabilitation. Their biomedical engineering facilities include the CAREN Extended, which they have been using for 6 years for cutting-edge gait analysis, as well as the ArmeoSpring for upper limb functional movement therapy.
Recent report: Feasibility study
A recent feasibility study on patients recovering from COVID-19 infection showed a significant and clinically relevant decrease in fatigue and dyspnea after the 6 minutes walking test, as well as improvements in impairments and fitness. This was achieved with the use of the HERO Solution system in just 12 weeks of a rehabilitation program.
