Motek M-Gait

Motek‘s M-Gait is a modular 3D instrumented dual-belt treadmill which can have various upgrades. This improves the functionality of your set-up and increases the clinical and research possibilities of your system.

The basic set up contains a 3D instrumented treadmill which measures ground reaction forces, centre of pressure and spatio-temporal parameters. The left and right treadmill belt speeds can be controlled separately, allowing a split-belt walking protocol and advanced gait research applications which can mimic tripping or slipping, provoked by sudden belt stops or accelerations. Treadmill perturbations can be used to study pathology specific responses, allowing for a more functional gait analysis.

The M-Gait is controlled by the flexible D-Flow software which provides real-time system control and an application development environment using visual programming.

The M-Gait is suitable for patients who require rehabilitation for neurological and neuromuscular conditions, orthopaedic disorders, the elderly, and those who are at an increased risk of falling. The M-Gait is also suitable for research purposes.

M-Gait Modular Upgrades

The instrumented treadmill can then be modularly upgraded with fast pitch and sway, motion capture, virtual reality (VR), body weight support, EMG and many other features, depending on your requirements.

Virtual Reality (VR) Screen

Immerse and engage your patients with a range of virtual reality environments, games and applications.

Box Icon Treadmill Pitch and Sway

Treadmill Pitch and Sway

Challenge your subjects with pitch and sway, which moves the dual-belt treadmill up and down to mimic, for example, walking over a hill.

Box Icon Motion Capture

Motion Capture

Motion capture camera upgrades will accurately track and record all patient movement.

Testimonial: Liverpool John Moores University

“Our new toy is the M-Gait which is a split-belt treadmill with two force plates, in addition to our trusty CAREN platform. I appreciated the flexibility of how our existing hardware could be combined with the new kit.

Being still relatively new to the M-Gait, our PhD students are learning the systems hands-on. Most of the work is at a pilot stage but our roadmap includes prediction of joint loading from movement during gait, the effects of gait modifications in alkaptonuric osteoarthritis, registration of dynamic changes in muscle and tendon architecture with ultrasound during gait, etc. etc.

Our movable CAREN platform was the first one in the UK back in 2004 and while this was a privileged position, we always wanted to extend the scope of our work from posture and dynamic balance to gait and so a treadmill integrated with a real-time feedback system has always been on our list. The M-Gait gives exactly what we needed.”
