Hobbs Rehab at Chedington UK first for paediatric Lokomat and C-Mill VR+
Hocoma
Summit Medical and Scientific are delighted to share that the new Hobbs Rehabilitation centre will be launching on the 15th of February 2025 with three state-of-the-art devices from our partners Hocoma and Motek coming soon.
Hobbs Rehabilitation at the Chedington Estate will be the first site in the UK to offer combined paediatric and adult gait rehabilitation with the Hocoma LokomatPro Sensation, and will also be the country’s first site for the Motek C-Mill VR+ treadmill with Body Weight Support. The centre will also offer intensive gait rehabilitation with the Hocoma Andago overground robotic body weight support system.
The service will be accepting new patients across complete and incomplete spinal cord injury, amputation, polytrauma and complex neurological conditions including traumatic and acquired brain injury.
Accommodation for carers, family and friends will enable whole families to stay together, or for clients to bring their own carers. With provision for children as well as adults, this is a crucial and unique rehabilitation offering. With a range of adaptive sports and accessible vehicles available at Chedington, there is the space, equipment and expertise to harness the client’s true abilities, safely and alongside their loved ones or home-based support network.
Sara Brammall, Managing Director at Summit Medical and Scientific, said:

About the LokomatPro Sensation
Hobbs Rehabilitation at Chedington will be the first site in the UK to have the LokomatPro Sensation with adult and paediatric orthoses and the FreeD module.
The LokomatPro Sensation, developed by Hocoma, is a robotic-assisted therapy device for highly intensive physiological gait rehabilitation for severely impaired patients.
The LokomatPro Sensation uses an individually adjustable exoskeleton combined with dynamic body weight support, with adjustable hip and knee joint angles to tailor the device to a patient’s specific needs during training. Customisable and versatile, the LokomatPro Sensation can train a wide range of patients to develop a healthy physiological gait pattern – even those with severe disabilities.
With the LokomatPro Sensation, the therapy plan can be created more individually than ever before. The therapist can truly customise each individual session to each individual patient’s needs and interests with a more varied library of games and exercises for continuously motivating and engaging intensive gait training.
Hobbs Rehabilitation are fitting their LokomatPro Sensation with adult and paediatric orthoses, which enables gait training for patients of all ages. The two interchangeable sets of orthoses can be easily swapped out by the therapist for a versatile rehabilitation solution, and both offer the same wide range of therapy benefits.
The addition of the FreeD Module improves therapy by allowing for lateral translation and transverse rotation of the pelvis. The patient’s ability to shift their weight completely over their stance leg, and thereby activate their core muscles and experience balance aspects, is crucial in relearning to walk independently.
About the C-Mill VR+
The C-Mill VR+ by Motek is an innovative treadmill for the evaluation and training of impaired gait, gait adaptability, and balance. Using augmented reality, virtual reality, acoustic cues and force plate technology, the C-Mill VR+ is the ideal solution for effective functional movement therapy.
This advanced C-Mill VR+ is the first in the country, which features an instrumented treadmill, augmented reality projections on the treadmill belt, an inset virtual reality screen, a safety harness, handrails, built-in body weight support, and a full suite of gait and balance applications.
Patients who are unable to stand or walk by themselves or require help to stand up out of their wheelchair can utilise the built-in body weight support. It is possible to significantly reduce the patient’s body weight during their gait and balance training, so they can start therapy much earlier in the rehabilitation process. A ramp can also be provided so wheelchair patients can access the C-Mill VR+ and its body weight support system.
Therapists can make adjustments tailored to each patient, set challenges, monitor the immediate effects, and generate reports – all with just a few clicks and in real time.
The patient’s performance can be measured and saved to provide short and long-term progress reports, allowing the therapist to tailor each session according to the patient and their progress.
About the Andago
The Andago by Hocoma is a versatile free-moving mobile gait robotic device, which has been combined with a dynamic body weight support system. The Andago provides intensive and efficient therapy, bridging the gap between treadmill-based gait analysis and the patient’s ability to walk freely and unaided. The mobile robotic technology senses the patient’s movement and actively follows them, while also providing dynamic and safe body weight support.
The Andago is suitable for patients requiring rehabilitation for any condition affecting their movement, and for fall prevention.
Using the Andago‘s flexible body weight support system allows your patient to move without the fear of falling, becoming unstable, or getting injured. The Andago will allow them to move freely, hands-free and upright, within a safe environment. As the therapist, you can take a step back and assess their movement, providing feedback and monitoring their progress throughout gait, balance and stability tasks.
