GRAIL therapy for children, from research to clinical implementation

This webinar will present the experiences of using the Gait Realtime Analysis Interactive Lab with children with gait and balance disorders.

The three speakers, who between them have almost 20 years combined experience with the GRAIL, will present on their experiences with the device, from research to clinical practice. Their insights will provide a window into how the GRAIL technology can be integrated in the paediatric rehabilitation setting for children with gait and balance difficulties.

Meet the speakers

Roisin Delaney, MCSP, PT, Physiotherapist at the Motor Learning Lab at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, London, United Kingdom

  • Worked in gait measurement services since 2002
  • Worked in gait rehabilitation services (with GRAIL) since 2014
  • Areas of clinical interest include complex lower limb reconstruction surgery secondary to sarcoma, miserable malalignment syndrome & cerebral palsy

Dr Emilia Biffi, PhD, Researcher at Scientific Institute, IRCCS E Medea, Bosisio Parini LC, Italy

  • PhD in Bioengineering from Politecnico of Milan, 2012
  • More than 7 years’ experience using the GRAIL with children
  • Area of interest and expertise include development and testing of new technologies, such as virtual reality and robotics, for rehabilitation and assistance of young subjects
  • Over 50 peer reviewed research articles

Dr Simon-Henri Schless, PhD, Manager of the motion analysis and biofeedback laboratory at ALYN Hospital, Jerusalem, Israel

  • 11 years’ experience as a physiotherapist in the paediatric population.
  • PhD in Biomedical Science from the KU Leuven, and current research fellow at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland.
  • Over three years’ experience of clinical integration of the GRAIL for gait analysis and biofeedback motor training in the paediatric rehabilitation setting.
  • Research interests and expertise include neuromuscular coordination and muscle mechanics during gait, and advanced quantification of dyskinesia.
Meet the moderator

Rosie Richards, PhD is the Clinical and Scientific Affairs Manager at Motek Medical.

  • PhD in Clinical Biomechanics using the GRAIL with people with knee osteoarthritis from the VU University, Amsterdam.
  • Several years’ experience using the GRAIL with a variety of different populations for gait analysis and training.
  • GRAIL instructor since 2019, providing clinical and research trainings for Motek clients globally.
