The unit provides a rehabilitation service for the Defence Medical Services (DMS), and research is a key element of this service.

The Academic Department of Military Rehabilitation (ADMR) at DMRC is the research hub for musculoskeletal and rehabilitation research in the Defence Medical Services. We are a vibrant and fast-moving organisation which aims to support the highest and very best primary healthcare to members of the Armed Forces and other entitled personnel. We have an opportunity for a Higher Scientific Officer – Virtual Reality Rehabilitation here on the Academic Department of Military Rehabilitation (ADMR), Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC), Stanford Hall.

This role requires the post holder to work as a research scientist on the Academic Department of Military Rehabilitation (ADMR) at the UK Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre. We are seeking a highly motivated researcher with specific expertise in the practical application of virtual reality rehabilitation within a Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment (CAREN).

The successful candidate will be providing biomechanical, virtual reality and clinical assessment implementing a CAREN high end system, including patient preparation, equipment setup and system operation. Elements of the CAREN system includes high-speed 3-D motion cameras, instrumented treadmill with force plates, high-definition image projection, 6-degree motion base, surround sound and wireless electromyography (EMG) sensors. The post holder’s primary role is to develop research questions, advise on research design, conduct human studies, publish scientific papers & supervise the CAREN trainer assessment of military personnel undergoing residential rehabilitation. Knowledge of and experience using the CAREN system, biomechanical 3-D motion capture techniques, and previous involvement in clinical research are essential.”
