COVID-19 and Guillain-Barre syndrome patient walks again using Lokomat
Hocoma
A 51 year old patient contracted a mild case of COVID-19, which then triggered the development of Guillain-Barre syndrome that attacked his spinal cord and left him paralysed.
Greg Schroeter, from rural Humphrey in Nebraska USA, said his recovery has been long and emotional.
“I went from basically being bedridden, and one of my physical therapists stood me up,” he said. “And I looked him eye to eye and I knew I was gonna walk again.”
Thanks to the combination of therapy on the Lokomat, a dedicated team of therapists at the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals and his strong will, he is recovering successfully.
“It’s three and a half hours a day of pure hell, but it’s worth everything because I’m going to walk out there.”
