CSP and 21 organisations launch “Manifesto for Community Rehabilitation”
News
The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) has joined forces with 21 other national charities, unions and professional bodies to jointly call on all political parties to recognise that people have a right to effective community rehabilitation.
Community rehabilitation services deliver tailored assessment, treatment and support to improve physical and mental health, reduce hospital admissions and help people manage long-term conditions.
But in too many cases, people access them too late – or not at all:
- Only 40% of the 1.3m people living with traumatic brain injury receive rehabilitation.
- After a hip fracture, only 1 in 5 services provide people with immediate rehabilitation on discharge from hospital.
- Only half of people who suffer a cardiac event can access rehabilitation afterwards, and this rate is even lower for women, BAME and economically-deprived patients.
