In Motek’s recent online session “perturbation training: underlying principles and clinical evidence”, guest speakers from Maastricht University presented their work on the underlying principles and clinical evidence on the use of perturbations for fall prevention.

Dr. Kenneth Meijer and Dr. Chris McCrum discussed the use of mechanical perturbations using a 6 degrees of freedom movable platform and split-belt treadmill. By manipulating the walking surface while measuring responses in terms of stepping parameters or kinematic changes, fall risk can be evaluated and targeted training protocols can be offered.
