We are delighted to share that The Children’s Trust have been invited to share an oral presentation “Application of the first UK Paediatric ROBERT® Trial: A Novel Step Towards Enhancing Robotics for Children with Acquired Brain Injury” at the European Academy of Childhood Disability (EACD) annual meeting.

The conference is taking place in Galway from 3rd – 6th June. Click here to read more.

You can hear Laura Buttimer, Occupational Therapist at The Children’s Trust, speaking on Friday 5th June from 11:35 – 12:35.

Huge congratulations to the therapy team at The Children’s Trust for this prestigious opportunity.

About the ROBERT® trial at The Children’s Trust

The Children’s Trust participated in the UK’s first paediatric trial of the ROBERT® in 2024-25, marking a new path for paediatric rehabilitation.

Over three months, the ROBERT® device was integrated into the neurorehabilitation programmes at The Children’s Trust, supporting children and young people with brain injury.

Six Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists were trained and accredited to use the ROBERT® robotic rehabilitation device with their older clients for upper and lower limb therapy.

Children and young people were selected based on the inclusion criteria of upper/lower limb mobilisation goals, +12 years old, and actively receiving inpatient neurorehabilitation.

ROBERT® intervention sessions were integrated into rehabilitation programmes 1-2 sessions per week, and outcomes were measured through goal setting and self-reporting from the children, young people, and their families.

“The trial demonstrated the device’s potential to reduce handling and facilitate an increase in repetition of movement, contributing to recovery outcomes through upper and lower limb mobilisation.

ROBERT® has proven to be a versatile and effective addition to neurorehabilitation. It accommodates children and young people with varying levels of ability.” (Via The Children’s Trust News.)

Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists at The Children’s Trust reported that ROBERT® not only provided greater opportunities for mobilisation but also allowed them to focus on other critical aspects of care, thanks to its intuitive and efficient operation.

The Children’s Trust has since been evaluating the trial data to explore the potential for robotic rehabilitation in paediatric settings.
